The early season highlight at Ayr - the Class 1 Listed Tennent’s British Stallion Studs Rothesay EBF Stakes is run this afternoon.

Now in its fourth year this £50,000contest was first run in 2016 when won by Maleficent Queen, trained by Keith Dalgleish and ridden by Philip Makin.

The following year Nezwaah took the honours giving jockey Andrea Atzeni his first ever Ayr winner from his first ride at the track. The filly went on to win the Pretty Polly Stakes, a Group 1 race, at the Curragh later in the season.

The 2018 running of the race was won by another Keith Dalgleish horse in Euro Nightmare who came home with a sustained late run to win under Paul Mulrennan.

There are six more races on the afternoon including a Class 3 five furlong handicap which was won last year by Tanasoq for trainer Paul Midgley and jockey Philip Makin.
